The mouth of the Riachuelo has always been the Natural Port of Buenos Aires, that only allowed to anchor small ships since it is not very deep. The Riachuelo caused many floods that left a mark in the life of the La Boca neighbourhood and it also made the buildings of the area adjust to it. There have been many projects to modify the depth of the river and to adapt its characteristics in order to turn it into a big harbour, but none of these projects succeeded. Later the harbour of the city of Buenos Aires was built even more to the north, which resulted in a deterioration of the Riachuelo. Anyway, the Riachuelo still is and will always be the landmark of the La Boca neighbourhood where everything leads to it.
