It has been named after the monument situated in its center, “France to Argentina”, which was donated by that country on the celebration of the first hundredth anniversary of the Revolution, a work by Edmond Peynot. It has four relieves in bronze that represent historic moments for both countries. It also displays Carrara marble statues in the middle, standing for science, industry, arts and agriculture. The work is crowned by two female figures hand in hand, symbolizing France and Argentina, guided towards Glory by an angel.
Around it, there are many sculptures and plaques that honor French characters whose work had influence in the world. Among them, we find one of Emile Sola, writer, and Luis Braille, creator of the reading system for the blind.
This park is the heart of Recoleta; during the weekend, its fare gathers handcrafters, tarot readers, visual artists, acrobats and musicians with their improvised and free shows. Porteños attend massively when the weather is nice and sunny, making it possible to enjoy the environment walking the whole day or sitting on the grass for a round of good “mates”. This bohemia completely opposes the distinction of the area and its high-level gastronomical proposals.
