To honor General Jose Gervasio Artigas, the “father” of Uruguay, this monument stands in the center of the square. This work stands out because of the bronze and the two bas-relieves that symbolize “Liberty” and “Federation”, figuratively framed by the De la Plata, Uruguay, Paraná and Paraguay Rivers.
The authors are the architect Alejandro Bustillo and the sculptor Juan Jose Zorrilla de San Martin.
