To get to Cafayate from Salta you have to travel 183 km. on Route 68, paved. You can also get from Cachi, 136 km. along Route 40, at that point a gravel road.
If you come from Salta the best option is to leave early in the morning to visit the towns of the Lerma Valley up to the Quebrada de las Conchas (or of Cafayate).
This spectacular landform is one of the attractions of Salta. Its high walls encasing the River de las Conchas have been eroded by the wind modeling different forms: the Devil’s Throat, the Amphitheatre, the Titanic, the Obelisk, the Toad, the Friar, and all the ones your imagination may find.
These magnificent stone walls seem to be jealously guarding the vineyards of the Cafayate Valley, which appear in all their glory at the last bend in the road.
To get from Cachi take Route 40, a gravel road. Drive with caution, and take time to enjoy the amazing Gorge of the Arrows and the small villages along the way!
