This giant floor was inaugurated in 2002, in an immense four-hectare park, whose paths were redesigned for the better appreciation of the flower from all perspectives. It has six petals made of silvery steel and aluminum. It weighs 18 tons and it is 20m high. Each petal weighs 4000 kilos. It is sustained by a cone structure that allows for it movement through a system of deices and computers. It is surrounded by a little pool with a cascade. The petals open at sunrise and close at sunset, while a system of lights is turned on, giving it a harmonic brightness. It is the “City’s Great Flower”.
This ambitious project demanded a lot of aerodynamic work and calculations, as well as careful resistance tests that took place in an airport in Cordoba.
