Address: Florida 877 – Retiro
This building founded in 1914 was conceived, in its monumentality and features, as a replica of the famous Harrods store in London. It shared its time of splendour with Gath & Chaves, as symbols of the most distinguished and elegant shopping options in the context of the modernity of Florida Street. Every imported high-level article could be found in this important shopping center.
The building itself reminds of splendour and elegance times of Florida Street, a characteristic meeting point for walking, buying and/or distracting yourself.
In its interiors, it lodges a carousel, a hairdressing salon and an impressive tearoom.
It was abandoned as a consequence of the different institutional and political economic crises the country had, it began an attempt to recover some of its spaces at the beginning of the 90’s. On Saturdays, the fourth floor functioned as an art gallery.
It’s artistic antecedent was retaken with strength during this last time in an effort to revive that abandoned building that holds much memory and history of the city of Buenos Aires. It hosted one of the most important visual arts events seen lately, called Arte Vivo (Alive art).
