Address: Av Entre Ríos y Rivadavia e/ Combate de los Pozos e Irigoyen – Monserrat
This Historic National Monument is the venue of the National Legislative Power, namely the Upper House and the Lower house.
It consists of an impressive building situated opposite Plaza de los Dos Congresos (Two Congresses Square), the end of the institutional axis that starts in Plaza de Mayo, at the Casa Rosada.
This imposing piece of architecture reflexes the remarkable Italian academicism of the end of the 19th century. It was created by the Italian architect Victor Meano, even though he surprisingly passed away during the final stage; therefore, his Belgian colleague Julio Dormal completed it. It was officially inaugurated in 1906.
Among its characteristics, the grand dome crowning this ostentatious 80-meter building is the visual stunning symbol of the culmination of De Mayo Avenue. Its majestic Greco-Roman structure stands out, mixed with the influence of later European figures in the details.
On the top extremes of the corner wings, you can observe winged Victories playing trumpets, seemingly auguring big Republican celebrations,
The details of its great interior rooms (the Blue Room, the Room of the Lost Steps, the Honor Room, and the precincts of the Lower House, among others) are no less important. The furniture bears high artistic value, some samples are works of art of figures like Zonza Briano, Blanes and Quinequela Martín.
