This was the neighborhood’s first library and in its beginnings it was one of the most modern ones in the country since it had binding and a translation department. Currently it has 45,681 books.
For nine years it was the workplace of the famous Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges whose work “The Library of Babel” was inspired by this place. Nowadays his chair and work table are on display on the story that bears his name.
