Lakes Escondido (Hidden) and Fagnano
In
order to visit these magnificent lakes we propose a special adventure:
to travel on secondary roads aboard a 4x4 vehicle deep into the
forest. During this trip you can also view the coast and trek
as much as you want. This is one of the most authentic ways to
discover Tierra del Fuego, the end of the world.
While this excursion is out of the ordinary it can be taken
by people of all ages who want to travel to places accessible only
by a 4x4.
The first stage of the journey is to travel north along national
route 3, enjoying views of the Valles Carbajal (Carbajal valley)
and Tierra Mayor until the Garibaldi Pass, where the first photo
stop is taken. Unforgettable!
We then continue along route 3 until Aserradero Bronzovich where
we take a secondary route. This is the beginning of the off-road
journey. One path takes us to the coast of Lago Fagnano (Lake Fagnano)
where, in a strikingly beautiful forest, you will be served a breakfast
of coffee or tea and typical cookies.
This
off-road journey lasts for about an hour, traveling along the
edges of the lake, sometimes on the coast of the lake, sometimes
in the forest... and sometimes in the water!
Before arriving at Laguna Bombilla (Bombilla Lagoon) where you
can walk around the coast for about 40 minutes, until reaching
a refuge
on the boarder of the lake. Here you will enjoy a traditional lunch
of picada and asado (cold and grilled meets and cheese) with drinks
included. This place is rustic yet comfortable, with some of the
best views in all of Tierra del Fuego. After lunch, you will have
time to walk, enjoy the area or sit around the table with your
friends.
We then continue off road until arriving at the old route 3, which
borders Lago Escondido (hidden lake). We then continue to its head,
where we find the Hostería Petrel, an ideal place to walk,
drink a coffee or merely enjoy the beauty of the place.
After this stop, we then return again to Route 3 and return to
the city of Ushuaia.
